How to Add Custom Fonts to Notion

Notion is a versatile and powerful note-taking and productivity tool that offers a wide range of customization options. By default, Notion does not support installing custom fonts directly. However, if you have a particular font in mind that adds a personal touch or aligns better with your brand identity, you can use a third-party workaround. In this article, we explore how to add custom fonts to Notion using Google Fonts and the Notion Enhancer plugin.

Using Google Fonts as a Workaround

Google Fonts is a popular resource offering a vast collection of free fonts. By leveraging Google Fonts and a third-party enhancer, you can integrate custom fonts into Notion. Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Choose and Embed the Font

Visit the Google Fonts website and browse the available fonts. Select your desired font by clicking the "plus" button next to the font name. Once selected, click the "Family Selected" bar at the bottom of the screen.

  1. Customize the Font

Adjust the weight, style, and character sets as needed. When you’re satisfied with your selection, click on the "Embed" tab in the top-right corner of the screen.

  1. Copy the Embed Code

In the "Embed" tab, you’ll find the HTML embed code for the chosen font. Copy this code using Ctrl+C (or Cmd+C on Mac).

  1. Install Notion Enhancer

Notion Enhancer is a third-party plugin that extends Notion’s capabilities with custom CSS and JavaScript. Visit the official Notion Enhancer GitHub repository for installation instructions corresponding to your operating system.

  1. Add Custom CSS

After installing Notion Enhancer, open your Notion workspace and click the gear icon in the top right corner to access the enhancer settings. Scroll down to the "Custom CSS" section and paste the Google Fonts embed code into the custom CSS editor. Save your changes.

  1. Apply the Custom Font

With the custom CSS in place, you can now use the new font in your Notion pages. Open any page and, where you want to apply the font, insert an inline HTML element by typing <span style="font-family: 'Your Font Name', sans-serif;"> at the beginning of the section, then close it with </span> after your content. Replace 'Your Font Name' with the actual name of the font as specified in the Google Fonts embed code.

Please note that this customization works only on devices where the Notion Enhancer plugin is installed. If you access your Notion pages on a device without the plugin, your custom fonts will revert to the default fonts.

By following these steps, you can personalize your Notion workspace and enhance the visual appeal of your notes and documents with custom fonts. Enjoy the flexibility and creativity that custom fonts bring to your Notion experience!
