How to Manage and Interact with Comments in Notion

Notion is a powerful productivity tool that allows you to collaborate and communicate with your team seamlessly. One of its key features is the ability to add comments to pages, which greatly facilitates discussions and feedback within your Workspace. In this article, we will explore how you can effectively manage and interact with comments in Notion using the latest features and best practices.

Adding Comments

To add a comment in Notion, navigate to the page where you want to leave feedback. In the upper right-hand corner of the page, you’ll find a speech bubble icon. Click this icon to open the comments sidebar.

Within the sidebar, you can view all existing comments and add your own by typing in the comment box at the bottom. When ready, press Enter to post your comment. You can also attach files or images by clicking the paperclip icon.

Interacting with Comments

Notion offers several updated features to help you stay organized and engaged as discussions evolve:

Resolving and Deleting Comments

When a comment has been addressed, mark it as resolved by hovering over the comment and clicking the three-dot menu icon. From the menu, select Resolve. The comment will be hidden from the main view, but you can still access it by selecting the Resolved tab in the comments sidebar.

If you need to remove a comment entirely, select the Delete option from the same three-dot menu. Keep in mind that once a comment is deleted, it cannot be recovered.

Mentioning Users

To involve specific team members, mention them by typing @ followed by their name. Notion will automatically suggest users as you type. Once selected, the mentioned user receives a notification and can quickly navigate back to the conversation.

Editing and Replying to Comments

Should you need to update your comment or correct a typo, hover over the comment, click the three-dot menu, and select Edit. After making any changes, press Enter to save your update.

Notion also supports threaded replies for clearer, focused discussions. To reply to a comment, click the reply icon located below the comment. This creates a dedicated thread that organizes related conversations without overwhelming the main comment section.

Filtering and Sorting Comments

As your Workspace grows, managing numerous comments can become challenging. Notion’s updated sidebar now includes powerful filtering and sorting options. Use the search bar in the comments sidebar to locate specific comments by keyword or author.

To adjust the display order, click the Sort button at the top right of the sidebar. You can choose to sort comments by creation date or by author, ensuring that you stay on top of the most relevant conversations.

Conclusion

Comments are an essential component for collaboration in Notion. By leveraging features such as resolving, deleting, and editing comments, mentioning team members, threaded replies, and advanced filtering options, you can streamline your communication and enhance productivity. Explore these capabilities to keep your projects organized and your team aligned, taking your Notion Workspace collaboration to the next level with these updated features and best practices.
