How to Add and Manage Comments in Notion?

Notion is a powerful all-in-one Workspace that allows you to collaborate and communicate seamlessly with your team. One of the essential features in Notion is the ability to add and manage comments. Comments are a great way to provide feedback, ask questions, or have discussions within a specific page or block. In this article, we will explore how to add and manage comments in Notion.

Adding Comments

To add a comment in Notion, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the page or block where you want to add a comment.
  2. Highlight the specific text or block where you want to leave a comment. If you want to leave a comment on the entire page, you can skip this step.
  3. Right-click on the highlighted area to reveal a context menu. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Cmd+/ on Mac or Ctrl+/ on Windows to open the comment editor directly.
  4. Click on Comment in the context menu, or in the comment editor, start typing your comment in the field provided.
  5. Press Enter to post your comment.

Managing comments

Once you have added comments in Notion, you can manage them efficiently using several features. Here's how:

Replying to Comments

Notion allows you to reply to individual comments, enabling threaded discussions. To reply to a comment, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the comment you want to reply to.
  2. Click on the Reply button located at the bottom-right corner of the comment.
  3. Type your reply in the comment editor that appears.
  4. Click Enter to post your reply.

Resolving or Deleting Comments

There may come a time when a comment is no longer relevant or has served its purpose. Notion provides two options for Managing comments in such cases: resolving and deleting.

Resolving Comments

Resolving a comment allows you to keep a record of the comment without it being visible by default. Resolved comments are collapsed and can be expanded if needed. To resolve a comment, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the comment you want to resolve.
  2. Hover over the comment until you see three dots appearing at the top-right corner.
  3. Click on the three dots and choose Resolve from the dropdown menu.
  4. The comment will be collapsed and marked as resolved.

Deleting Comments

If a comment is no longer needed and you want to remove it completely, you can delete it. Be aware that deleted comments cannot be recovered. To delete a comment, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the comment you want to delete.
  2. Hover over the comment until you see three dots appearing at the top-right corner.
  3. Click on the three dots and choose Delete from the dropdown menu.
  4. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Mentioning Team Members

Notion allows you to mention your team members in comments to bring their attention to specific discussions or questions. To mention a team member, follow these steps:

  1. In the comment editor, type the @ symbol followed by the team member's name.
  2. Notion will present you with a list of matching team members from your Workspace.
  3. Select the team member you want to mention from the list.
  4. The mentioned team member will receive a notification and can directly access the comment.

Using Comment Mentions as Tasks

In Notion, you can turn comment mentions into actionable tasks by converting them to inline mentions. This allows you to create tasks directly from comments. To convert a comment mention into a task, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the comment mention you want to turn into a task.
  2. Place the cursor inside the comment mention.
  3. Press Cmd+Enter on Mac or Ctrl+Enter on Windows to convert it into an inline mention.
  4. A new checkbox will appear, allowing you to track the task.

Conclusion

Adding and Managing comments in Notion provides a valuable way to collaborate, provide feedback, and have discussions with your team. By following the steps outlined above, you can make the most of the comment feature in Notion, contributing to a more productive and efficient workflow.
